RE: Would you buy a WW now?

I'm on my first WW and despite its flaws I love it as well. I would recommend however (based upon my occurence and other's I've read here related to plumbing) is to stress test the plumbing. Doing water hammers is a bad thing to do, but its the best way to stress test fittings. It'll quickly make leaky fittings obvious!

RE: Magazine Rack in 2008 FK2100 WW

Okay, you made me look! Yep, no magazine rack in the bathroom, but plenty of room for one under the mini-counter to the the left of the sink, within arms reach of the throne thus making it an effective research library. (Other then shower humidity permeating any reading products in there! Besides if I need additional literature, I could merely yell for a magazine to be passed under the door!) And yes, I agree, barely room for one person, but the selling point on the unit for me was the 12'9" x 8' toy area, or 20' long canoe area, and the corner kitchen! I guess if I was into novels those shelves would be fine. I keep a couple kids hard copy books there but they stick way out at an angle.

Magazine Rack in 2008 FK2100 WW

In my FK2100 Weekend Warrior I have two magazine racks. One totally useful one by the door, and a second one under the television mounted into the side wall of the refrigerator compartment. This has three sections. The bottom is fine for magazines, but the top two are a problem. Too narrow an opening to stick DVD's into, and definitely too shallow to stick a magazine. Makes me wonder if the manufacturer messed up and put a shelf in the middle spar where a normal magazine would go thus causing two short shelves instead of one regular shelf. Is this for paperback novels, or did someone goof? I'm about ready to delicately cut out that middle shelf behind the spars so I can stick full sized magazines there.

RE: Towing in the Rain

My biggest question would be, did you discover the source of the leak? Roof vent open and not having an aftermarket vent cover?

Awning storing in the dark!

Well just had an experience a few days ago. We had some strong winds come up and so around 11pm I retracted the awning in the dark. My son asked if I wanted the lights on, and I declined since I've done it so many times before. It bound up and wouldn't close all the way. After the third extension, and retraction, I finally discovered the reason. When I dropped the corner posts and listened for the click, one post didn't drop all the way down and I mistakened the sound I heard for it hitting bottom. And so during the retraction process one leg a couple inches too long and thus bent up the siding around the forward mounting clip on the side of the trailer. Will need to add some additional caulking but other then some minor bent siding, no apparent structural damage. Mount is still secure though no longer flush. Needless to say, I really feel stupid, so as a warning to all of you. "Have your lights on when retracting that awning!"

RE: WW Round Cocktail Table - Where??

I have the Billet interior and I did some remodelling in my trailer and one of the first things I did was replaced the bay window table top. I used double sided 1" grey melamine, cut a pattern larger then the stock table and then added grey T-Moulding along the edge. It's not symmetrical as I needed to displace the two Captains chairs but the table is now very close to the wall, less space for the blinds, not so far into the aisle, and much wider for more table top space.

RE: Leaking outside shower - fix and winterization?

I'm in the middle of replacing a defective swivable, 1/2" female to barbed elbow. I don't like plumbing and just couldn't get that clamp off the hose. Cutting it with heavy duty side cutters, or a small hack saw didn't seem to work. Finally I drilled it out. It had a circular exposed spring component to the clamp and I merely slowly increased the size of the drill, drilling out that spring without touching the hose. Eventually the spring became to weak to hold and I was able to then slide out the elbow barb, and then slide of the clamp. I then went to the hardware store and bought about nine screw adjustable metal clamps. One to use, others for on the road. (The elbow appeared to leak for no reason, but then I found it wasn't sealed properly when installed and I guess just a matter of time.) Even though I had dumped the tank eight months ago or so, there was still full pressure in the cold water lines. I had removed the fuse from the water pump (I found no cut-off switch) to prevent further leaking. But opening the faucets to relieve the pressure seemed to take two minutes or so for the pressure to disipate. Makes me wonder if there is a rubber bladder tank to maintain the pressure. I did have a dilema though. The hardware store sold 3/8" and 1/2". Kind of wierd though. Too big and too small. It almost seems like the barb is 7/16. I went to a nearby RV dealer and they too only had 3/8" and 1/2". So I bought the 1/2" with some extra hose. (That was another thing, they made the hose connections too tight to each other so no play room!) I'll be assembling this thing when I get home this evening.

RE: Awning Deflappers

Okay, I'm game. I'm not in Arkansas but I've had mine set up an entire week now. Usually only on the weekends at home. I have the base anchored to keep them from the boom dance. I noticed that one stand was taller then the other. Are the # of holes set suppose to be the same setting on both and the fact the hole distribution is offset suppose to mean one side is set higher then the other? I usually set them the same height, but at a down angle from the attachment to the trailer siding.

RE: Warrior's assets siezed

I know one way for WW to make a quick influx of cash. Sell repair manuals with full schematics for each model. I'd buy one to match my unit!

OOPS, was writing my post when the other post occurred. Sorry for the double information!

RE: Merging traffic

California has a PDF of their handbook on-line. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl600.pdf pg.31 Freeway traffic has the right of way.

RE: Merging traffic

I've tried to be nice by changing lanes to let them in but then they pace me (for the shade or for whatever reason) and block me from getting back, and soon I have fast movers riding my bumper. I've found it easier to let them deal with their own merge woes! I try to be nice, but I don't move anymore.

RE: Running a fan using 12V plug

42dB. I use Antec Black Sonata computer cases just so I don't hear them running. I typically buy from other electronics distributors but thanks for the lead. Though they're 118vac, I love the Vornado portable fans for room air circulation when plugged into power because they're very focused and very quiet on the lower speeds.

RE: Running a fan using 12V plug

In my WW toy hauler I have a high mounted fume exhaust vent. I opened the inner pop out door and cut to shape an 1/8" plexi-glass plate to cover the entire hole. I then cut out a circle for a 3" 12volt computer fan. Soldered it to a 12v cigarette lighter plug and plugged it in to the auxiliary jack next to the television. (Just to note, although I really don't like the size of these connectors, there is a multi-drop available so plug one male in to get four sockets.) The fan is only 27cfm but since it seals the vent except for the 3" round hole of the fan it forces the hot air out helping to keep the inside temperature under control. It runs all the time and because its a brushless motor, its quiet. I've found when the trailer is parked, my four ceiling vents haven't seemed very effective unless there's a breeze. I use a vornado fan in the front of the trailer to help circulate the air, and a small fan near the computers to help circulate the hot computer exhaust. It seems to work okay. Before I was trying to blow air at the fume exhaust vent but that's like trying to blow air into a bottle. Not much air actually went out the vent.

RE: Misters??

I was parked on my pad in my backyard. I also have an airconditioner but shut it down after we were getting too many brownouts which seemed to confuse the airconditioner. Because of the 106F temperature I was concerned of overheating the generator just to run the airconditioner and computer equipment so after the Nth brownout I just shut down almost everything in the trailer. The air conditioner was sounding funny after every brownout like it was trying to decide if it was in an energy cooling cycle or not, and it really knocked the refrigerator for a loop. Freezer stayed mostly cold, but the refrigerator essentially stopped cooling, just a lot of moisture on the soda cans and water bottles. Not sure if it was the computer in the refrigerator that was confused, or the semi-frequent opening of the door as my kids were grabbing sodas, or the heat. It seemed to stay that way unit that early evening I turned off the refrigerator for a couple minutes then turned it back on, and a couple hours later cans indicated the refrigerator was back to normal. I'm just trying to determine that despite living up in Thousand Oaks, about 8 miles (or so) by crow to the Pacific Ocean, would a mister help keep the trailer cooler by essentially misting the top of the trailer. I know that its cooling effect for people wouldn't be very good due to the humidity already in the air, but using the mister to spread cool water (or warm once it gets through the hose) across the top of the trailer would help diminish the effects of the sun heating up the roof, thus heating up the insulation, thus heating up the insides, and so be much cooler inside. Even with the airconditioner off.

RE: Misters??

I have my Toy Hauler set up as a year round mobile office/workspace and a week ago the temperature got to 106 and cooked one of my computer servers. Has anyone hooked up a misting system on top of their RV to help counter the suns rays heating up the top of the RV thus theoretically helping to keep the inside temperature lower? My awning extends East so I was fine until a little before noon. the next day I through up a hose and sprinkler and though the sprinker was expending more water then I prefer (though the run off went into the yard plants) it seemed like it helped though it was about 10 degrees cooler, and then the temperature inside the trailer started to rise as the afternoon sun started striking the non-awning side. I'm wondering if the mister while using less water, would be somewhat effective?

RE: WW top bunk safety

With the remodeling I've done only the Single Queen drop down remains and I use that but it rests about 5' off the floor. (Mine is a front kitchen and I removed the bench seat.) But nothing wakes me up faster then swinging over the edge and sliding downwards and finding that I've missed the ladder entirely! I've made a point of centering it on the bed (only about 30" of center aisle is available) and usually look up to align myself on the vent before swinging over but sometimes I forget. I've fallen three times doing this but its only a matter of time before I break something. Of course I've got this other fear of rolling off the bunk while sleeping. What are others using as guard rails (for adults?)

RE: Toy Haulers with a glass door? HELP

My 2100FK toy hauler MEL is technically an office in disguise. (Mobile Electronics Laboratory) I realize the reason the back door ramps are solid due to weight of toy vehicles, but has anyone tried to remodel the back ramp door with a window, as it gets pretty dark in that rear 48 square feet with the single queen bunk up. And if someone wanted to load vehicles, they could merely drop a diamond plate over the window while the ramp was down? Any ideas?

RE: Who uses a Toy Hauler...w/o any toys?

I joke about fitting a 12'9" Dune Buggy AND a 20'6" Kayak. But I own neither! Though because of the equipment I'd have to offload to load the Dune Buggy, but the Kayak will still fit now! The big plus, is we move every few years and that particular truck rental company jacked up their mileage rates a few years ago, and now I don't ever need them again! Merely use the Toy Hauler as a moving trailer! Can't load it as heavily, but with proper planning (and weight balancing) can take minimal trips fully loaded! I was just reviewing my pictures I posted earlier and realize I should use day shots with the window blinds open. It look kind of cluttered. Though my cousin came in and commented, that I had too much space available and needed to fill it up. I don't know about that. I like airy and not too cluttered.

RE: Ford 460 cuts off over 35mph.

Sorry I'm laughing here. It may or may not be related to my old problem, especially since my was related to a brand new 2005 Chevy Express Van. About six months after I got it, it would start pinging excessively and lose power on semi-steep, then steep grades. It took the dealer a week to figure it out. (They gave me a free rental vehicle!) It was a manufacturing error. It seems the electronic ignition computer was installed too close to the alternator and though it took the van a while to break in, eventually it got to the point where the ignition wires would interfere with the ignition computer. Once they relocated the computer the problem was solved. Maybe you have something similar where an spark plug wire or something is a tad too close to a critical component and generates a larger magnetic field at the higher RPM thus scrambling the computer. Just a thought!
